I never in a million years would’ve thought that the self-help industry would get into making movies! With the success of the movie ‘The Secret’, it makes perfect sense. I just got the movie version of Louise Hay’s ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ and watched it the other night. The message is very similar to ‘The Secret’ (although this book has been out for years- and many of the authors in this movie have been talking about the Law of Attraction for years as well…..anyways…), but it’s less about “getting whatever you want” and more about changing your thoughts to live the life you desire. That’s certainly not a dig about ‘The Secret’, because I enjoyed that too- they’re just different. One thing that was similar to ‘The Secret’ that I really enjoyed was all of the commentary from the different authors. There were a few authors that I have heard about, but never read. It was interesting to hear their perspective (and of course now I’m interested in reading some of their books). And of course Wayne Dyer was on- one of my favorite authors!

I think what I enjoyed most about this movie was just hearing Louise Hay speak. Her story was fascinating. She’s been doing the work she does for so long- I had no idea she founded her publishing company later in life (which actually seems to be the case with many people. They come into their own by living through difficult experiences and as they get older, are more comfortable with who they are and much more capable of following their own path. Hhhmm….something I need to remember!). The movie was made sometime during 07, and at the time I believe she was turning 80 or was over 80. Pretty amazing really. It’s an inspirational story to say the least. The only recommendation I can make when watching this movie is that you watch it when you’re not too tired- I was a bit sleepy, fortunately the information was interesting enough to keep me watching. Enjoy!

One Response to “Self-help movies? March 4, 2008”

I think there is a huge need for movies in the self help industry. To me however, the key is the same one as in the self help book industry. That key is “Are they any good?”….”Do they really have anything to offer the viewer or reader?”

There are so many books and cd’s out there that I personally find very little substance. It’s a simple tweak or variation of the same things. I’ve mentored with some of the very best the field has to offer. I have a library of hundreds of books and the same in tapes and cd’s. I love all the products and with only a really rare exception…find something in every book or cd that is helpful. What is needed is something real…something truthful…something that will actually help to change the viewer…not a SECRET!

I am currently working on a “self help” movie that will provide this and more. Whether this truth will be embraced or not remains to be seen. We expect the movie to be completed by September of 2008. This project has been years in the making and will be something that will help to actually change people’s lives.

I enjoyed your post and look forward to many more!
Have a great day.
