I’ve never really been one of those people who LOVES to nap….but sometimes, it’s just the right thing to do. Because yesterday was a holiday, both of my kids were home and we had a lot to do in the morning. It was a long weekend (we had two 11 year old girls sleep over Sat. night….we were all tired), I had worked a little over the weekend and had a paper to post by midnight last night. Before I was really able to get my paper started I had a friend come over so I could help her with one of her websites. Needless to say Read More »

Striving for excellence motivates you; striving for perfection is demoralizing. ~Harriet Braiker

One of the few magazines that I actually have a subscription to is Body & Soul (the rest I just keep buying at Barnes & Noble on a regular basis…go figure) and it came in the mail yesterday. This is also one of the magazines that I take the time to read the table of contents before I just aimlessly flip through the entire thing, telling myself I’ll go back to the articles I skip. The article I went directly to in this issue was “How to be (IM)Perfect”, by Terri Trespicio. It addressed the idea of perfectionism and how we can make ourselves crazy by trying to be perfect or having everything in our lives perfect. I don’t know that I have ever considered myself a perfectionist, but I know I’ve had certain expectations of myself that I wouldn’t dare impose on anyone I cared about…..why then did I impose them on myself? Ah….the million dollar question. The beauty of where I’m at in my life now though is I’m starting to realize Read More »

I don’t know if this really qualifies as “letting go”, but I did some major purging of books today. I’m not sure what got into me. I was having a nice morning with my kids (it’s Mother’s Day after all), spent some quality time with the newspaper and my coffee, got up to get dressed and just decided to yank a bunch of books out of my room. It was long over due. I had two bookcases in my room, one in my closet and an additional book case in the office. I was starting to stack the books Read More »

Well, my pilates books have arrived. Definitely worth the money ( I think it was about $35 for two books, not too bad. Especially not compared to a private training session at the gym!). I’ve gone through the books and now have to either memorize the moves, write them down, or figure out a way to ’sneak’ them into the gym. What a dink, huh? While I’m trying to figure out how to get the books into the gym (it’s not like they’re that huge- you would think I was trying to smuggle in a baby elephant), I actually was able to Read More »

I didn’t realize it had been so long since my last post, sorry! I’ve been a little wrapped up in getting the hosting account set up for this blog as well as working on another site. Time flies when you’re having fun….. So yesterday I had a facial. It had a been a while since I’ve had a facial, as I tend to go for the massage whenever I need some pampering (and often it’s ‘just because’- I am a bit of a massage junkie). However, as my time in the sun has caught up with me Read More »

I never in a million years would’ve thought that the self-help industry would get into making movies! With the success of the movie ‘The Secret’, it makes perfect sense. I just got the movie version of Louise Hay’s ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ and watched it the other night. The message is very similar to ‘The Secret’ (although this book has been out for years- and many of the authors in this movie have been talking about the Law of Attraction for years as well…..anyways…), but it’s less about “getting whatever you want” and more about Read More »

Of course there’s another aspect to self-help that I almost forgot about- which is kind of the back bone to the whole industry- and that is counseling. I hadn’t actually ever been to counseling until a few years ago. I went through a terrible loss in my life and knew that I needed some help to get through it, and I wasn’t really in the mood to do any sort of group counseling or support group (I’m not knocking them- it just wasn’t something I wanted to do at the time). So, I opted for private counseling. My first attempt Read More »
